It’s proving to be a big year for the social media blogger, with everyone claiming that influencer marketing is set to explode in 201 7– but this was truly cemented when Forbes magazine released its first-ever Top Influencers list in April, including some of the most talked-about names in the beauty and fitness world. Published quarterly, the next lists will focus on travel (June), fashion (September), and food (December) – with more to come the following year.
So who made the cut in the first round? According to Elle, these are the influencers who can make up to $300,000 per video on YouTube, $187,000 per Facebook post, and $150,000 per Instagram post. Now, that’s some impressive numbers! Here’s what you need to know about the top five..
1. Zoe ‘Zoella’ Sugg @zoella
British blogger Zoella launched onto the scene eight years ago, broadcasting beauty haul videos from her childhood bedroom. Now 27, she has 11.6 million subscribers and counting. In 2014, her first book, Girl Online, became a New York Times bestseller. That same year, she launched her own record-breaking line at UK chain Superdrug. She’s so popular; she even has a second channel, MoreZoella, which chronicles her daily life.
2. Michelle Phan @michellephan
Of course, we all know Michelle, our ipsy co-founder. In the decade since posting her first YouTube video, she’s become the ‘byword for influencer-turned-entrepreneur.’ Since starting out with makeup tutorials in 2005, she has grown her YouTube channel to over 8 million subscribers. In 2013, she teamed up with L’Oréal to create her first-ever makeup line, Em, which she just relaunched last week!
3. Huda Kattan @hudabeauty
Last month, the New York Times asked: Is Huda Kattan the most influential beauty blogger in the world? Going from a finance job to a fully-fledged vlogging star and launching her own makeup line in just seven years, with fans including Kim Kardashian, Huda boasts 1.7 million subscribers on YouTube and over 19 million Instagram followers.
4. Nikkie de Jager @nikkietutorials
This Dutch makeup artist uploaded her first video in 2008, and nine years later, collaborated with professional makeup brand Ofra Cosmetics on a line including self-designed liquid lipsticks, and a highlighter palette. She racks up 6.6 million subscribers on YouTube and 7.4 million Instagram followers.
5. Shannon Harris @shaaanxo
New Zealand’s brightest blogging star started out in 2009: ‘I was obsessed watching YouTubes from the USA, and could never find anyone from New Zealand or Australia.’ It’s a good thing she did – she now has 2.9 million subscribers to her channel, as well as 1.5 million Instagram followers. She’s partnered with companies like Clinique and Smashbox Cosmetics, plus launched her own brand, xoBeauty.
