After a limited rollout last year, YouTube is expanding its Community tab to more creators – it’s now available to anyone who has a channel with more than 10,000 subscribers. Here’s the lowdown you need…
This social feature lets creators engage with their followers through text, video, photos and more – it’s all about strengthening your relationship with your audience. You can find the tab in the left-hand column, under ‘Dashboard’ and ‘Video Manager’.
Here, you’ll see a list of your most engaged and influential viewers, updated daily. Better than that, you’ll get to see information about them, including their number of subscribers – useful if you’re looking for a new connection or collaborator! At the top of the window, you can create a Google+ Circle as a way of reaching out to all or a selection of your fans in a quick and simple way.
This area allows you to adjust the Comment settings for your channel using Automated Filters: You can approve or ban users, and even blacklist comments using keywords that you deem inappropriate for your page.
Once you have created a Google+ Circle of your top fans, you can that keep up with their activity on your videos, see what else they’re interested in on YouTube and reach out to them via Google+ within this area. There is a feed for Recent Activity – great for finding new content ideas – as well as a box in the right-hand column to post directly to your Circle – another simple way to stay connected and engaged with your followers.
Sorry, Snapchat. YouTube’s the next social network to follow Instagram, Facebook, Skype and Messenger to create its own version of Stories with a new feature called Reels. This will live within ‘brand-new tab on a creator’s channel’, according to Tech Crunch.
Reels ‘will soon be introduced into beta for a handful of creators for feedback and further testing’, the company explains, to ‘introduce a new video format on YouTube that let creators express themselves and engage fans without having to post a full video. Instead, creators make new Reels by shooting a few quick mobile videos of up to 30 seconds each, then adding filters, music, text and more, including new “YouTube-y” stickers.’ The difference? Creators can make multiple Reels and they won’t expire.
