AUG. 8, 2017:
This week, we’re featuring the ipsyOS members in this year’s top six to talk starting out, finding inspiration and what it takes to be a finalist in the FACE Awards. Here’s what happened when we met Victoria Lyn Beauty…
With over 81k followers on YouTube, Victoria Lyn Beauty is making a name for herself creating transformative beauty looks. Her videos range from Classic Beauty to her intricate Hypnotic Mermaid, which featured full silicone scales on the face and body, and took 12 hours to create and four hours to film!
‘Beauty vlogging started as a hobby alongside my path to acting. Years later, I found I could incorporate acting and makeup into special videos, which consisted of characters I would create for Halloween or Cos Play for my subscribers – I love showcasing makeup, costumes and creating amazing videos that leave the watcher wanting to see more.
‘Dark Fantasy always inspires me, photographs of different styles of makeup, paintings and movies, colors, and also overall imagination. I try to think outside the box. I also like to create the full package – I always have costumes and props for my videos, which are built and made in my home. It’s a house of cards in my garage, as everything has been made, disassembled and reused for other videos.
‘My interest in the FACE Awards started in 2015. I was not heavily into YouTube, and did not have an Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook page. I was browsing online videos and came across the 2012 winner of the FACE Awards Charisma Star. I loved her creations; they were very intriguing and beautifully filmed. I decided to enter in 2016, and was placed top 20. This year, I sharpened my skills and experimented with SFX makeup, videography, and on social media. I wanted to challenge myself and see what I could create in a limited timeframe with specific requirements. I never expected to be top 6 – it’s honestly a dream.
‘For the first Royalty challenge, I was brainstorming for three days after receiving the sponsored boxes filled with clues. I studied the Royal Coat Of Arms of the United Kingdom – it was seeing the crest that inspired me to incorporate a unicorn and also a queen. Unicorn Reign was then filmed: I decided on dark hair for the queen (since most unicorns would be golden), with striking blue eyes. The idea of feathers falling on her was very magical, as was the spilling of glitter.
‘When Cyberpunk was announced as the last challenge, I was extremely excited… I decided on a modern take and created two looks. My Misfit Grunge showcased a very futuristic chic with all the elements of cyberpunk, while also creating a very beautiful metallic-like makeup look. Her alter ego, Glitter Girl, was also very tough, with a modern touch of glitter, as well as high-fashion makeup techniques for a more glamorous look. The video flashed between the two characters in scenes, as well as present to future, dark to light, fantasy to reality. I think that is what is amazing about the contest – you can really show off your creativity.’
