OCT 13, 2016:
If you have ever looked at your fellow travelers after a long-haul flight, you will notice that everyone looks a little bit busted. Their skin is shiny, flaky, red and inflamed. This is due to lack of humidity in the cabin, and the refiltered dry air. When you think about it, it’s pretty gross. No wonder post-flight break-outs happen to the best of us.
Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to prevent and treat these breakouts. Read on for a few tips.
Before the flight
We recommend exfoliating with a mild exfoliator the night before the flight. This will clear up any dry skin residue that may cause breakouts during the flight. We like H20’s Restore The Glow Exfoliating Cleanser because it’s super gentle.
During the flight
If you can, do not wear any make-up during the flight. If the thought of not wearing makeup makes you want to curl up into a fetal position, be sure to bring some cleansing wipes to clean your face while you’re in the air. NYX Cleansing Be Gone Makeup Remover Wipes will take off all your make-up without drying you out.
Before moisturizing, apply a serum, like Bare Minerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusion, to prep the skin for moisture. If your skin is especially dry, you may want to apply an oil before moisturizing. Josie Maran’s Argan Oil will give you that spa feeling mid-flight. They even have an adorable travel size that’s perfect for your carry-on. Follow-up with your favorite moisturizer.
After the flight
Once you get to your hotel, or wherever you are staying, cleanse the skin as soon as you can. If you have time, we recommend doing a quick sheet mask to hydrate and lock in the moisture sucked out by the plane cabin. Peach and Lily has an amazing line of sheet masks, each tailored to an individual’s specific skin needs. After a flight, we recommend the Hydrating mask.
Repeat the moisturization steps you did on the plane, but take some time to let your serum/oil and moisturizer soak in. You may need another layer of moisturizer once the first has had proper time to set. Your skin is a parched desert and quenching its thirst will keep you breakout-free.
