Following what CNN is calling ‘the most powerful hurricane to hit the United States in a decade’, the residents of Texas and Louisiana are now repairing and recovering from the destruction caused by the storm.

We all want to help in any way that we can – contributing to the relief efforts is a great way to make a difference, wherever you are in the world. Look to humanitarian organizations, as well as local resources like the Houston Humane Society and the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund where ipsy is donating $25,000 and matching up to $25,000 in donations from our community of creators and ipsters.  Just click the Harvey Relief Fund link above and type IPSY in the field for fundraising code.

Here are a few other ways you can help the cause…

Buy these beauty brands

Houston-based brands Drunk Elephant and Sunday Riley’s teams are safe, and have been contributing to various organizations, in addition to volunteering and donating food and clothing to those who have been displaced. Meanwhile, Winky Lux is donating 100% of the proceeds from its Matte Lip Velour in Pippy to Houston Humane Society.

Raise awareness

As a beauty influencer, you have a global reach. Create content that will engage with your audience, but also inform them about the situation and ways they can help. Blogger, Nicole Renee Cutler’s video has already raised thousands of dollars for the relief fund. Other creators are doing little things for sponsorship – from dying their hair to giving up makeup for a week, any proceeds could help those in need.

Offer accommodation

Vogue reported that ‘Airbnb has set up a portal for those affected by the storm to find accommodation and for others to offer up their homes. Services fees have been waived for those affected and checking in between August 23 and September 1.’ If you are local to the area,  offering a roof to those without one is a wonderful way to help.

Share your experiences
