NOV. 2, 2016:
Taking place November 5th and 6th at Pier 27 in San Francisco, Generation Beauty is bringing the party to the Bay City. Though you probably have your event schedule zipped up, let us give you some recommendations for your downtime. Read on for our favorite places to stay, see and dine.
Best hotel: Clift Hotel
Conveniently located just north of the hustle and bustle of Union Square and Market Street, the Clift is a sleek, Philippe Stark-designed boutique hotel. The hotel’s bar, The Redwood Room, is always popping.
Best bar: Smuggler’s Cove
If The Pirates of the Caribbean was transformed into a bar, Smuggler’s Cove would be it. Transport yourself to an island retreat complete with tiki rum drinks and flaming scorpion bowls, but prepare to be patient when waiting for a drink. Trust us, they’re worth it.
Best splurge meal: Park Tavern
With its dark, romantic ambiance and chic location right on the park, Park Tavern offers sophisticated American fare. We recommend making a reservation and ordering the deviled eggs—a house specialty.
Best affordable meal: Ken Ken Ramen
Located in the Mission District, Ken Ken Ramen serves up the best ramen in town, along with a bustling bar scene. Choose from a selection of traditional ramen, vegetarian and vegan options, and definitely order the kara-age.
Best brunch: Foreign Cinema
Providing amazing food, ambiance and outdoor screenings of (you guessed it) foreign films, Foreign Cinema is a local favorite. Go for brunch before Gen Beauty and try the daily homemade “Pop Tart.”
Best shopping: The Fillmore
Offering big name brands like James Perse to Marc Jacobs and Steven Alan, Fillmore is a gorgeous hill lined street with flowers. For a taste of the local boutique scene, check out Heidi Says and Elizabeth Charles.
Best scene: The Ferry Building
Before heading over to Gen Beauty, check out the Farmer’s Market at the Ferry Building, which starts Saturdays at 8am. With a selection of produce, artisanal foods and local crafts, the market provides an amazing snapshot of the Bay area and its culture.
Best view: Golden Gate Bridge & Marin Headlands
The jewel of the San Francisco skyline, The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most iconic bridges in the world. Don’t leave SF without paying a visit, or cross the bridge over to the Marin Headlands, a beautiful open space that boasts some of the best views in the Bay area.
